Microsoft Fabric is a cloud-based data platform that unifies data and AI workloads to streamline enterprise data management and insights. At the core, OneLake is a tenant-wide data lake that serves as the foundational storage layer for all Fabric workloads. Think of it as “OneDrive for data”.
There are several storage options within Fabric that are all accessed and stored in OneLake: Lakehouse, Warehouse, Eventhouse, and SQL Database. Each of these data solutions is designed to address a distinct type of data, level of team expertise, and set of use cases. This paper examines the key differences between storage options to optimize data strategies within the Fabric data platform.
