sam deployment planning

Microsoft SAM Services are provided FREE to qualified customers.
Contact us to see if you qualify.

In a SAM Deployment Planning Engagement, based on a comprehensive review of your existing IT infrastructure and current software/hardware inventory processes, Inviso will identify an appropriate SAM tool for you and provide you with a Proof-of-Concept deployment of that tool. You will also receive a SAM Improvement Plan that focuses on advancing your SAM maturity through process design, business case analysis, and adoption planning.

A SAM Deployment Planning Engagement will provide you with a clear roadmap for:

  • Production deployment of the selected the SAM tool
  • Advancing your organization’s Hardware and Software Inventory SAM maturity level
  • Improving visibility into, and control of, your IT infrastructure

Steps

1.) Inputs
Inviso will work with you to:

  • Develop a complete background of your existing IT infrastructure and environment
  • Identify up to 25 machines to include in the Proof-of-Concept pilot (usually in a test environment)
  • Collect a hardware/software inventory for the Proof-of-Concept machines, including:
    • Entitlement data from procurement and any applicable sources or suppliers
    • Deployment data
    • Metering or usage data
  • Conduct a workshop to document current hardware/software inventory processes, as well as any needs, limitations of current solution and processes, objectives or goals for future state
  • Conduct additional interviews with key stakeholders as necessary
  • Analyze previous SAM engagement reports, if available

2.) Proof-of-Concept
Based on our understanding of your IT infrastructure we will make a recommendation of the most appropriate SAM tool to be used during the Proof-of-Concept. Using that tool, we will:

  • Deploy and implement Proof-of-Concept tool on the identified POC machines (up to 25 machines, usually in a test environment)
  • Gather data from Proof-of-Concept tool, and validate as needed
  • Remove tool at completion of engagement, if appropriate

3.) Final Report Presentation
In the final step, Inviso will provide you with a final SAM Deployment Planning Report that will include:

  • Introduction
  • Background
  • Engagement scope
  • Proof-of-Concept overview, results and findings
  • SAM Improvement Plan with:
    • Current state of inventory processes (including a workflow diagram)
    • Recommended future state of inventory processes to increase maturity including a workflow diagram
    • Business case for increasing the maturity related to the Hardware & Software Inventory competency through adoption of the tool demonstrated during the Proof-of-Concept, including benefit, risk and value analysis
    • High-level action plan and timeline to implement recommended improvements and next steps

In addition, you will receive an executive presentation which provides a high-level overview of the engagement and findings with an emphasis on the risks and benefits of your current and future state as well as the business case to initiate improvements to SAM. The presentation will include:

  • Introduction
  • Background
  • Engagement scope
  • Overview of current SAM maturity level in the Hardware & Software Inventory key competency area
  • Risks involved with current SAM maturity level in the Hardware & Software Inventory key competency area
  • Recommendations on future state and associated benefits
