A SAM Baseline Engagement provides you with a standardized analysis of the Microsoft software you currently have in use and the software you are entitled to. Based on this analysis we will deliver strategic recommendations to optimize licensing and procurement with your key corporate objectives in mind.

A SAM Baseline Engagement will help you:

  • Get started with SAM
  • Get an accurate snapshot of your current license position
  • More accurately report yearly True-Ups
  • Plan for product upgrades (e.g. SQL 2012), private cloud, virtualization, etc.

Steps

1.) Inputs
Inviso will work with you to:

  • Develop a complete background of your existing IT infrastructure and environment
  • Identify and deploy the most appropriate SAM tool to collect an inventory of installed software
  • Compile entitlement data from procurement and other applicable sources or suppliers (OEM, full packaged product/retail, outsourcer, service provider, additional resellers, information regarding mergers, acquisitions, or divestitures)

2.) Analysis
Using the input data, Inviso will then:

  • Perform an initial review and verification of all license entitlement information, discovery tools and systems
  • Verify and consolidate software inventory reports
  • Perform a reconciliation analysis comparing license entitlements to software deployments
  • Apply licensing rules (upgrade, downgrade, promotions, etc.)
  • Perform a final review and validation with you to reach agreement on the most accurate point-in-time reflection of your current license position

3.) Final Report Presentation
In the final step, Inviso will provide you with a final SAM Baseline Report that includes an executive summary and details related to the SAM Baseline engagement, findings and recommendations. This report includes:

  • Introduction
  • Background
  • Engagement scope
  • Environment overview
  • Summary of Effective License Position
  • Overview of engagement results, recommendations and next steps
  • Entitlement and deployment inventory details
  • Identified over-licensed and under-licensed software
  • Identified risks and liabilities
  • Common licensing issues
  • Identification of any opportunities for improvement
